Goal Setting is a process for planning what you want to
achieve. When you set yourself goals, you are making plans and taking control
of what you want to accomplish throughout your life.
By setting goals, you can:
- See what you can achieve
- Gain confidence to achieve even more
- Measure your successes
- Take pride in what you’ve achieved
The
setting of Specific Goals is one good way of fulfilling the purpose God has for
your life. Goal setting takes TIME, DISCIPLINE, COURAGE and PATIENCE.
Long-term goals and
short-term goals.
Long-term goals are also known as Final Goals and short-term goals may
also be known as Journey Goals. Long-term
or Final goals will provide you with inspiration whilst the short-term or
Journey goals will keep you motivated on the way to your Final goal.
For example, You might have a long-term goal to start your own internet
business within a year, but there will be many short-term goals that
you will have to accomplish to achieve the long-term goal.
Long-term
goal:
- Start internet business
Short-term
goals:
1.
Find a hungry
niche market
2.
Develop a
product that is guaranteed to sell
3.
Write the sales
copy to promote it
4.
Design the
website to sell it
5.
Market through
proven channels
Within these short term goals there may be other smaller goals that you have to
complete. To start your own internet business, you might need to research
the different training and coaching programmes around, or if you are taking the
do it yourself route, You might need to buy internet marketing training
books. One of the tasks to achieve the short-term goal might be to
read two chapters of the book daily.
A long-term goal can seem very difficult to achieve but if it is broken down
into smaller bite size short-term goals, it makes the long-term goal seem much
more obtainable.
When setting your goal, make sure that it is: SMART
Specific - You need to
have a clear definition or target of what you want to achieve
Measurable - You must
be able to quantify your goal so you know when you have reached
Attainable - The goal must be attainable and not outlandish
Realistic - Your goal should be just out of your immediate reach.Goals
should not be too easy for you to achieve or too hard.
Time
bound - You need to put a time frame on all your goals.
FIVE IMPORTANT STEPS
1.
YOU MUST DECIDE FOR YOURSELF
WHAT YOU REALLY WANT OUT OF LIFE
Nobody else can decide for you, if you don’t care what happens to your life no
one will.
2.
GET ALONE IN A
REFLECTIVE/THINKING MOOD. This
enables you to understand your plan and what you desire. This is to
help you get your goals ‘in agreement’ with your values. This helps you to
avoid setting the WRONG goals.
3.
WRITE DOWN ON A SHEET OF PAPER
EVERY SINGLE DREAM, GOAL AND DESIRE THAT IS PRESENTLY IMPORTANT TO YOU. Write down every thing you have ever wanted to
DO, BECOME OR POSSESS. It maybe spiritual. Physical, mental, financial or
have to do with family, career or business. It is important that you write
it down don’t leave it in the memory. The bible says write the vision and
make it plain upon tablets that he may run that readeth it for the vision is
yet for an appointed time though it tarries wait for it for it will surely
come.
4.
CHOOSE THE TOP THREE GOALS OUT
OF THE LONG LIST. Now write down at
least FIVE actions that you can do NOW toward accomplishing that BIG priority
Goal. Remember a big success is simply several successes linked together. A
chinese proverb says the journey of a thousand miles starts with the first
step.
5. LEARN HOW
TO BE A CHANNEL OF BLESSING. This is in line with the law of
"KARMA" sowing and reaping whatever you sow that is what you will
reap, What you make happen for others God will make happen for you.
